New Kellanova Chicago HQ Highlights Illinois as Leader in Food Innovation
Leading snacks company Kellanova has opened its new corporate headquarters in Chicago following its separation from cereal giant WK Kellogg Co., further bolstering Illinois’ position as a leader in U.S. food manufacturing and innovation.
Formerly known as Kellogg Co., Kellanova makes some of the most famous snacks in America, including Pringles, Cheez-It crackers, Pop-Tarts, Kellogg’s Rice Krispies Treats, Nutri-Grain bars and Eggo frozen waffles. The new Chicago base means the Fortune 500 company will benefit from the state’s numerous advantages and thriving food innovation ecosystem.
Food producers in Illinois enjoy close proximity to agriculture, other food producers, a robust supply chain, and suppliers like packaging manufacturers. The prime location also includes access to all of the nation’s top railways, the 3rd largest interstate system, and the most connected airport in the world, meaning businesses can ship their food products anywhere with ease.
Investment has been pouring into Illinois food production; according to a recent report there were 76 venture capital deals for food innovation companies in just the Chicago region in 2022. Additionally, over 60% of Chicago’s startups that received seed funding in 2022 were developers of alternative protein or dietary-specific food options. Illinois is also #2 in the nation for protein-related patent awards.
